Work goes best when you’re in a good mood but we all have those lean days where the last place you want to be is at work. Trying to stay positive not only goes a long way in helping you have peace of mind, but also boosts your job performance. Here are a few tips to stay positive at work:

Tip 1: A good start to the day is crucial!

You wake up on the wrong side of the bed and the world seems be against you from the start. So what do you do? Have a good breakfast! Everyone says the most important meal is the first meal of the day. It is important that you have a good breakfast so that you don’t have to go through the morning thinking what is for lunch and having your stomach telling you that the time for food is now. Stomach aches and rumblings are very distracting and are sure to not help your mood.

Tip 2: Keep your body happy and healthy

Healthy body, healthy mind, which leads to a happy employee. Exercising and even singing along to your favourite song will help release endorphins giving you that “euphoric feeling” everyone keeps talking about.  So when driving to work turn up the music and get your own personal sing-along going. Alternatively go for a jog or hit the gym before you go to work.

Tip 3: Stay hydrated and rested

Make sure you drink plenty of liquids throughout the day to keep your body hydrated while. Be sure to take short breaks to recharge your body and pull yourself away from your work for a few minutes. Bad moods can be caused through boredom so it is important that you do something different, like going to the bathroom or getting yourself a drink.

Tip 4: Interact with people

Loneliness leads to depression. Chat or maybe share a joke with your co-workers or even go and meet somebody new. Social interaction is an important part of keeping your mind at ease. Anger, frustration, depression can all be born out lack of social interaction. A quick joke in passing with a colleague could put a smile on your and somebody else’s face in a matter of seconds!

Tip 5: Act the Part!

Become an optimist they said, it will improve your job happiness they said. What they didn’t tell you is how to appear positive even when you feel like everything is against you. When things aren’t going your way and you are in a bad mood the last thing you want to do is appear positive. But at the end of the day if you act negative, the people around you will be negative towards you too and that doesn’t solve any problems. The solution?  Act like an optimist. Smile at people and pass compliments. Do small random acts of kindness in order to boost your morale and put a smile on other people’s faces. Nothing brings joy like giving joy to others.

Remember! “Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused.”
